Sunday Entertainment

Does playing Word Racer via Yahoo against your husband while you're both sitting in the same room qualify us as dorks?

Isn't it funny what becomes "fun" when life becomes so simple?

Ooooo, gotta run and go kick my husband's booty in Word Racer!

Euro Stores and Car Dents

It's my last Friday with my baby home with me before he starts school full time again. Boo. Oh well, the sooner he starts the sooner he ends, right?

Today, we were bored so we went and checked out the euro store.  It's just like the Dollar Store or Dollar General. Anyways, so we're in the store and there's hardly anyone in the store.  I think other than Steven and I there there 2 other people, a mother and her daughter. So, we're walking around the store looking at everything and laughing at some of the stuff we found when we get stuck behind the mother and her daughter in the last aisle that leads up to the cash register. We're laughing and talking, in English of course, when the daughter who was no older than 5 probably turns around and is gawking at us. She had the funniest look on her face...one of utter disbelief. I swear, she thought we were aliens.  The whole way out of the store she was in front of us and she kept stopping, turning around, and staring at us... which just made us laugh even harder. You just had to be there.  We're pretty use to getting weird stares and looks from people since we're speaking a language that is not the mother tongue here. But, the poor girls expression was priceless. She looked so confused as to what we were speaking and a tad scared, haha.  Steven was laughing and said, "Can you imagine how confused she is?"

Anyways, that's my great ole' story of the day.

Moving onto Five Question Friday!  Click here to check out other fellow blogger's answers and to check out Mama M's blog!
My Little Life

1. How much time do you spend on the computer a day?Waaaaaaayyyyyy too much time!  Hey, at least I have a semi-good excuse as to why. Ok, here's my wonderful reason as to why I stay on the wonderful world wide web so much.  Ya see, I don't work, I'm happily a "stay at home wife" (for the time being), and I happen to live in a town that has absolutely nothing entertaining to do in it. Nothing, nada, zilch. Unless of course, you consider going grocery shopping almost every day entertaining ;-) Plus, I feel as if I'm getting smarter by all the random reading I do online... just kinda, haha.

2. Will you pay for your children's college or raise them to pay for their own way?
Ooo, good question! Steven and I have discussed this and have different thoughts on it.  I think that by having your children pay for their own college it teaches them to work hard for the things they want and when/if they pay, they'll sometimes take it more seriously since it's their money they are spending. Now, if someday I have the kind of money to help my kids, then yes, I may help them a little.

3. Have you ever been in a car accident?
Nope.... knock on wood :-) I have however hit "something" with my car. One glorious day, my (then boyfriend, now husband) and I decided to meet at the mall. I was following behind him looking for a parking space when I found one and decided to park in it. He was also parking at the same time only a few spots up from mine.  Well, while turning into the spot I got the smart idea to look at him, wink, smile, and act flirty. Obviously watching where I was going wasn't an option, I had more "important" things to do, right? Haha. Well, needless to say I hit the concrete pole that was on the side of the parking space. I remember when I hit it all I cared about for a couple of seconds was if anyone else had heard the loud "bam" and if anyone had seen it.  And yes, it left a nice little crack/hole in the bumper.  My mom later in the week came walking into the house all concerned about how someone had hit my car...yeah, um...mom, I did that. Hehe. I still get teased about it by him to this day.

4. What is your favorite book?
I don't really have one favorite book but one of my favorite authors is Karen Kingsbury.  I've read almost all of her books!  Of course, the Bible is one of my favorite books as well.

5. Do you make your bed everyday?

Ummm................. no.  Does anyone really? I personally feel like it's a pointless thing to do and am thankful that I have married a man that feels the same way about bed making :-D Obviously, I/we make our bed if people are coming over but I just don't see a point in making something every morning that you're just going to get back into when you get back home from work. It's not like people are in your house everyday walking through your rooms to see if your beds are made, hahahaha. People who make their bed every single morning do it more because they feel like everything has to be "perfect" for the day... at least, I think that's it.  Haha.

Who would've ever thought that we'd be living here...

Looking at this beautiful sight out our window...

We sure never did!

Cinnamon Dolce, please!

I ain't gonna lie... i'm pretty sure there's a hurricane...no wait, tornado since we don't live near water, attacking our small town right now.  It's all kinds of crazy outside. Trees blowing like crazy, wind is howling, and the rain is a'comin'. It is quite weird to Steven and I as the whole time we've lived here, the wind has never once really blown hard, and we've never once heard thunder or seen lighting here.  Not that it's lightning and thundering... but still, we're gonna die. It's official. The tornado is going to take over in Pforzheim. Joy.

Totally kidding, we're not dying.

Since it's a nasty day and there's not too much to do in Pforzheim, I'm super excited about today's Five Question Friday! Hop on over to Mama M's blog to see other answers :-)

My Little Life

1. Do you sing karaoke? If so, what is your go to song?Heck to the no! Ironically, I grew up always singing in choirs and whatnot but I would never do karaoke. I'm too shy! I'm really outgoing but singing in public would be the death of me.  Well, maybe I would if I was doped up on sugar and maybe had a drink...but I can promise ya, if I ever do karoake, make sure to videotape because I'll deny it all the way to the grave. Haha.

2. What is your favorite coffee drink?
Mmmmm.... I just have to pick one? I LOVE Starbucks Cinnamon Dolce with extra cinnamon.  But my other two favorites are, White Chocolate Mocha (iced or hot), and Iced Caramel Macchiato's with extra cinnamon :-)

3. If you could choose your own name, what would it be?
I actually love my name. I haven't met very many Kimberly's out there so it's nice to have a name that everyone doesn't seem to have. I don't care for being called, Kim, but that's just a personal preference... I guess because growing up, my mom always told me that "Kimberly" sounded more elegant and pretty. But, if I had to choose another name, my mom said at one point they almost named me, "Kimberlynn." It's a little different, but I think it's a really pretty name.

4. Were you ever bullied?
Um...I guess so? I don't actually ever remember being what I would consider bullied. But, I do remember being in middle school and getting made fun of because I was skinny by some other girls.  And, I definitely got made fun of in middle school for being a late bloomer. Hey, not everyone is perfect :-)

5. How often do you eat fast food?
Steven and I try not to eat fast food that much. We love it but usually save the eating out for the weekends and try to cook at home during the week. But, that honestly has to do with what's going on during the week and how much time we have to cook.

Funny moment of the night...

Me: (in regards to the movie Steven was playing on his computer) I remember seeing that movie in the theaters!!!

Steven: Oh really..... from 1989? Do ya now...

Me: (uncontrollably laughing) Uh..... no.  I thought it was the newer version.

Yeah...pretty sure I don't remember sitting in a movie theater watching, "Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade" when I was 3 years old. Hahahahahahaha.

Oh dear...

Another funny moment happened on Tuesday while we were at the Irish Pub. Upon leaving, our new friends, who the guy happens to be from North Carolina and just moved to Pforzheim, said to me, "See ya on Saturday for the pancakes."

I instantly turned to Steven, "Oooooooo, can we come? I LOVE pancakes! Can we?! Please!!!! It'll be so much fun, I can't remember the last time I had them."

Steven says, "yes" and I am very happy.

Until a few minutes later....

When I happened to look at the menu for the week and see that on Saturday, The Pancakes are playing. As in a musical band..not musical pancakes. Um...what happened to my edible pancakes?

I ran over to Steven, "Baby....um.... we can't have pancakes on Saturday."

"Why not"

"Well, because it's a band playing and not real pancakes, haha.  I was wondering why they were going to be serving pancakes so late!"

(insert laughter from everyone around the table) whew, can we say blonde moment?

Welcome to story time - where the foreigners tell all their embarrassing stories.

While at Liberty, for some reason unbeknownst to me, certain friends of mine referred to me as "Story Time." Ok, so maybe I do know the real reason... basically, I could and was always telling some mad crazy and funny stories.  I personally liked how they called me "Mother Goose" one time, classic.

Back to my story.

Once upon a time, there was a girl named... um.... let's go with Kimberly, that sounds legit. And one day, Kimberly decided she wanted to go to the wonderful land of potato wedges, friends, quiz night, and English speakers.  Now that was a simple task as the wonderful English filled land of goodness was only a mere 10 minutes walk away.  The not so little anymore girl said to her studly husband, "Please! Can we?! Please say we can go mingle."  Her studly husband so lovingly replied that night with a simple, "Yes."  Little....er Big Kimberly was so excited to be leaving her not so big apartment and to feel the fresh air of Pforzheim blowing on her face. She and her studly husband briskly walked to this wonderful potato filled dream land one evening in search of laughter and English.  Plus, they really liked being able to forget that they were in Pforzheim for a little bit.   The boy and girl sat down and waited for their friends, who "promptly" arrived 30 minutes late...but that was okay because little girl Kimberly and big, studly boy, Steven, were too busy playing the quiz they had begun and sipping on Amaretto Sours.   The night went on and many laughs were shared. Right before leaving dream world, the worlds best waitress, came up with hot sauce for studly husbands, friends fries. Kimberly, thinking that it could be no hotter than Tabasco sauce decided to try some.  However, the waitress had repeatedly told her to only "take a dab" and her studly husband was pleading with her to only taste a little bit.  Poor little Kimberly should have listened.  Even though her fry only had a tiny bit of not from Jesus hot sauce on it, it was deadly.  Kimberly only got a drop on her tongue before throwing down the fry thinking that she was dying.  She was proclaiming to everyone that she has never had anything so hot in her life and grabbing her throat, when the worlds best waitress surely saved her life by rushing off to get little naive Kimberly some milk.

A few minutes later, the bar manager informed dying Kimberly that the hot sauce she had just tasted was imported and had a warning label on it.  Yikes.

But, even though she thought she was dying for a second, Kimberly has been proudly telling everyone how she bravely tasted the hottest sauce Pforzheim knows :-)

The End.

What we've been up to lately...

Just kidding, we haven't been sleeping all the time... just most of it ;-) Kidding, once again!

Since I don't feel like writing anything, pictures will have to do. Enjoy! These are from the last week or so.

My love wrote a really sweet letter for Valentines Day and I made him a crossword puzzle!
I forgot to write down the answers and it was funny trying to figure out some of them with him, haha.

Part of our dinner from tonight - nutella with peanut butter. So good! The other, more healthier part, was homemade chicken noodle soup.  Hey, eating healthy get's old after awhile :-)

Key the song, "This is how we do."
Seriously, us Bockmanns over here don't kid when it comes to "mopping" the floor.  Ok, so it's really because we lack a mop that we have to do it with our feet, haha.

Silly photo attempt in our apartment elevator take 1!

Silly photo take 2! Gosh, that hot man of mine never ceases to make me laugh!

Now, for the tour of snowy (last week), cold, semi-ugly at parts, Pforzheim!

The theater behind our apartment

Pforzheim is stuck in the 70's decoration wise :-)

The building right behind those trees (not the one the far right w/ all the glass windows) is where Steven's design show was.

On our way to the bus stop - the Park Hotel is the building in front

That little wall represents something of importance from Germany's past. We just can't remember exactly what, haha.

Backside of the theater

Old looking buildings... can't the sun come out just for one week straight?

Walking to the bus stop...

That's how deep the snow was last week... granted, I'm kinda short but it was a good 6-7 inches. We take what we can get :-)

Finally!

The pictures you've all been waiting for! Sorry that a lot of them are blurry, the lighting in there made it hard to take clear pictures.

The black lines were not on the poster, I blacked out his cell phone number and email...
We don't need freaks trying to get ahold of us :-)

Picture courtesy of Seungmo Lim - a guy in the design school, thesis semester
Here's a picture of everyone that was taken the last day.  I made it really big so you can see everyone. I think it's such a cool looking picture... the guys in the front all look like they're modeling!

I've been spoiled rotten today! My sweet husband got to stay home with me all day and it was amazing! We had such a fun and lazy day.  We finally decided to get out of the apartment and go for a walk on this pretty trail he found awhile back before heading over to Lidl. Tomorrow they start setting up the conference center and they all have to meet at the school at 8:30 am - yikes!  But, Thursday I get to be spoiled again and have him home with me all day so it's okay.  Friday and Saturday is the show and then that boy is free for a short while! Praise God! One semester down, two to go! I cannot wait to watch that boy graduate, I should start planning the awesome graduation party I'm going to throw now, haha.

Last night we cooked the most amazing meal ever! I highly recommend making rigatoni with white wine sauce... it's super easy to make and is simply delicious. Steven said it was his favorite meal we've had so far.  I tried to get pictures of the process but forgot to get pictures of the end result because we ate it too fast! I've always heard that cooking with wine creates an amazing flavor, and boy were they right!  This recipe calls for half a bottle of white wine that you cook down and then the rest you just drink w/ dinner. Yummy!

Basically, all you do is this:

Ok, so before you start sauteing the onion, get a pot of water boiling and once you have the onion, wine, tomatoes, and chicken cooking, start cooking the noodles. Use the biggest noodles you can find :-)

Ok, step one:

Saute a medium onion with salt and pepper

Grab some of this

And then you do this

(insert picture of wine cooked down)
Then after the wine cooks down, you add a can of crushed tomatoes

(insert picture of bubbling crushed tomato/wine goodness)
Once the sauce is lightly bubbling, you add strips of chicken that are seasoned w/ salt and pepper. But, the sauce must be boiling or else the chicken won't cook. The chicken absorbs the wine taste and the flavor is out of this world!

And, once everything is done... sit back and enjoy. You can go ahead and thank yourself now for creating such an amazing dish.

This picture just cracks me up! He wanted to see if it tasted like poison before we drank it... ya know, just to make sure it was safe and all ;-)

The next few pictures are from today, enjoy :-)

Apparently a midget lives above us

Walking to the grocery store - it was so cold!

The river behind our house
Going to the pretty path Steven found
Ah ha! I finally found out what kind of bird lives in those birdhouses. Pigeons! I hate pigeons...they are so dirty, ew. Well, at least they can be dirty all the way up there!

Pretty church we passed

Sunday, January 31, 2010

We woke up this morning to it moderately snowing.  So, the second I rolled out of bed and realized that it was snowing, I threw some clothes on, grabbed Steven, and ran outside.  Oh, I threw some clothes on him too... we're not looking to get in trouble for streaking :-) Of course the second we step outside it stops snowing. But thankfully, it started up a few minutes later... it never really snows hard here, but it's enough to make me happy when it does.  We decided to go to the park across the street to take some fun pictures. There weren't many people around so I decided to start attacking Steven with snowballs, however, he apparently throws better than I do because a few minutes into it and he smacked me square in the face with one. Do not dispair, I can hold my own ground too :-) I hit him back square in the face right after that! Daddy taught me well!  So, that snowball fight ended many laughs later and we then went further down the trail and decided to start building a snowman. Epic fail. Our snowman, which we named Cletus, had 4 snowballs instead of the usual 3. The snow here falls apart so easily...but it was quite fun and entertaining.  We started another snowball fight after we built the snowman too... I need to learn to start picking on people my own size, haha! But, I think I won this fight because mid-snowball fight I got the bright idea to stand sideways behind a tiny tree. Hey, it worked!   It stopped snowing awhile ago and now we are sitting around lounging.  Well, I am at least... Steven is finishing up the design for his poster so he can print it out tomorrow.

Here are a few pictures from today.

Gosh, he's cute. I mean, look at those eyes. He's sooooo dreamy.

Meet Cletus. Everyone say hi. Hi Cletus.

Ok, and here's some more pictures. I just don't feel like playing around with them or editing them. So, here they are, raw and untouched. Ekk... I've never done this before. Deep breath. I'm kidding... I just don't have all day to sit here and edit photos... or do I? Muhahahaha.

I want to live in these apartments

Beautiful apartments at the end of the street

Swans! They are so beautiful and graceful, but nothing is funnier than seeing a swan fly. Talk about awkward.

He really wanted to destroy the snowman.  Psssh, such a kid :-)

My rain boots my mom sent me paid off! See, and all of ya'll that wondered why she would send them... they're being put to good use now :-)
